We are committed to supporting Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, indigeneity (EDII) for all students and members affiliated with Japanese for Nikkei from around the world. We support a wide variety of community-based programs and national organizations that envision positive and productive change within their community at large. To nurture a dynamic, diverse, and inclusive online learning environment, we know that we need a clear plan of action that helps us measure the impact of our initiatives. We are mindful of the ways in which this can be achieved and invite constructive feedback and suggestions for future initiatives.

Community Involvement & Initiatives

  • Japanese for Nikkei’s Annual Zine Nikkei Monogatari.

  • Japanese for Nikkei’s Nikkei Spotlight Series.

  • Mimi Okabe has presented at the Canadian Association for Japanese Language Education (CAJLE 2022) and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL 2022) on topics that explore anti-racist approaches in Japanese language classrooms. She is also a volunteer for Discover Nikkei, a non-profit organization committed to connecting Nikkei around the globe, for whom she’ll be writing and translating articles.

  • Sachi Kikuchi is an active member of the Japanese Canadians for Social Justice group and Young Japanese Canadians of Toronto. She is also a volunteer translator for Voice Up Japan.

  • We would also like to collaborate with other Nikkei and Japanese organizations to help us support our vision, so let us know if you have suggestions!
